Host family Immersion

2 types of stay in total immersion allow you to learn the language and discover the local way of life:
Bain linguistique© : immersion in a host family in France or abroad
1. The immersion concept
How can you better understand French, English and Spanish culture and improve your level of language than by sharing the daily life of a host family? The Bain linguistique© is an unchanged concept, created by SILC in the 60s, which consists of a young person aged 13 to 18 living an immersion in a host family, to share their daily life.
The interest? A better fluency in the foreign language over the days, the discovery of the local culture through the inhabitants, and for the youngest, an undeniable personal enrichment: self-confidence, autonomy and responsibility.
4 main advantages
1. Language progress over the days
2. Experience the local culture from the inside
3. Personal enrichment
4. Discovery of a foreign region
This concept of Bain Linguistique© offers young people to discover a language in its daily context, but also to integrate into a foreign home, with its customs, its schedules, its cuisine, its way of life. An excellent language stay formula to open up to the world.
During the stay, the participant is welcomed alone in the family: there will be no other participant speaking the same language as him; on the other hand, participants of other nationalities could be welcomed simultaneously.
No group activity is planned in the program, the immersion is thus total, the practice of the foreign language being essential for dialogue.
Apart from their activities of daily life, the family will organize activities, cultural or sporting outings with the young person welcomed – the precise program of these depends of the family and the participant, according to their tastes and desires.
2. A la carte immersion program
It’s up to you to compose your program and choose:
- the length of the stay: from 1 week to 2 months, possible all year round
- the trip: city of departure, mode of transport, times and day of arrival. You are free to organize the trip and transfers by yourself or entrust their organization to SILC
- the destination: France, Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Spain
The final host region is defined by SILC according to the availability of the families and the participant’s profile, wishes and needs.
3. Selection of host families
Host families are chosen according to criteria related to their accommodation, but also for their availability and their sense of hospitality. In particular, they must:
- be attentive to answer questions and discuss with their host in order to facilitate his/her integration
- want to share their daily life and set up a fulfilling climate
- enjoy sharing their culture, and explaining their way of life
- be available to discuss with the participant
Within the family, each young person is accommodated with full board.
4. Who is the immersion stay in a host family for?

This type of immersion stay with a host family, without language lessons, requires a certain maturity on the part of the young person, ease in communicating with foreigners, and a great willingness to adapt: these 3 qualities are essential for quick integration.
This type of program is perfect for young people who:
• Have the required level of language A1/A2 (intermediate or usual level)
• Are curious, sociable, open-minded, motivated, communicative and independent
• Are able to live the family life and as his/her life in their countr, thus to do things by himself/herself (reading, walking, watching TV…)

Contact us >One to One : private lessons with the teacher

1. The concept : a 24-hour classroom!
One to One is the most effective of language stays: in addition to immersion in a host family, there are private language lessons (French, English or Spanish depending on the chosen destination) given by a teacher, a family member more often.
This type of program is the best choice to improve students general knowledge of every aspect of the language: listening, communication, written and oral expression.
2. One to one immersion program : languages & destinations
PROGRAM IN FRANCE
If students wish to make rapid progress in a short time, one-to-one French tuition is the ultimate and most effective option. Indeed, the participant will improve his level of French thanks to the tailor-made courses and the daily exchanges with his host family. French culture, gastronomy, customs and way of life are part of the program and contribute to enrich the experience.
Placements will be done all over France according to students and host family profiles.
PROGRAM IN GREAT BRITAIN, IRELAND OR USA
Learning English theory and putting it into practice simultaneously is the objective of this intensive program! Hosted by a warm and welcoming family and whose daily life they will share, they will be given tailor-made individual lessons by their teacher. They will consequently be able to practice the language with complete confidence, immersed in the sounds that will quickly become familiar.
PROGRAM IN SPAIN
Completing theoretical knowledge with an immersive experience is a good way to put into practice the Spanish language. This linguistic immersion in the local culture, in daily contact with a warm and accommodating host family and with a personal spanish teacher, offers students the opportunity to soak up the language naturally. As a result, they will be able to express themselves with greater ease and self-confidence. Olé!
